We always do our best to provide your order in one continuous piece whenever possible. However, as fabric rolls are completed or depending on how they arrive from the mill, an order may occasionally include more than one piece. Some mill-direct rolls may also contain splits within the roll.

For this reason, we cannot guarantee one continuous piece. If continuous yardage is important for your project, please contact our team before ordering so we can check availability for you.

Is this real denim?

No — it's a denim-look tartan. Despite the name, this Denim Kilt Fabric is a super-soft 65% polyester / 35% rayon blend woven in a denim-style tartan plaid — not actual cotton denim twill. What you get: the casual denim-tartan aesthetic with a soft hand, easy sewing, and machine washability (cold, no bleach). What you don't get: denim's rigidity and fade character. For kilts, costumes, scarves, and decor, the softness is arguably better — real denim makes a stiff, heavy kilt.

Will it hold kilt pleats?

With pressing, yes — but know the fiber. This 185 GSM poly-rayon tartan is soft and easy to sew, which makes pleating physically easy, but polyester-rayon doesn't have wool's natural pleat memory, so pleats need a good press (and possibly edge-stitching) to stay sharp through wear. The upside: at 58/60 inches wide there's plenty of fabric for deep pleats, and the whole kilt is machine washable — something no wool kilt can claim.
