I bought this thread in a few basic colors mainly to bump my fabric order up to free shipping but also because I do go through a lot of thread. It is not made for my sewing machine, however I found a partial spool of thread in my stash which fits inside the cone perfectly, so now I can use it directly on my machine without buying an adapter or rewinding onto bobbins, etc. I can pop that other spool back out with a pen pretty easily, so I can still use my old purple color when I need it. I have used a fair amount of this new My Textile Fabric thread already, making several bobbins and sewing custom draperies. I am very pleased with the product as well as the value and I am glad I made this part of my purchase.

Great fabric and shipping. But...

Of 3 spools of thread none have arrived whole. If the spools were shipped inside the roll I would be so happy. But they attach the spools to the outside of an 85 pound bolt of fabric. So it gets smashed.

Is 6,000 yards a lot? How long will one spool last?

It's a lot — 6,000 yards is about 3.4 miles of thread on a half-pound spool. For a home sewist, one spool is many months of everyday sewing; for a small shop, it's a serious workhorse spool. It comes in 50+ colors, so you can match your fabric properly instead of settling for 'close enough.' The thread is 100% spun polyester (spec T-27S/2): strong, slightly stretchy, and colorfast — the standard for garment construction. Honest note: spun poly isn't the pick for topstitching that needs a heavy, visible thread — for that you'd want a dedicated topstitch thread. For construction seams, this is the workhorse.

Can I use polyester thread on cotton fabric?

Yes — and most sewists do. All-purpose spun polyester is the default recommendation for cotton fabrics because it's stronger than cotton thread, has a little give (so seams don't pop on fitted garments), and it's colorfast and machine washable. The old rule about matching thread fiber to fabric fiber is outdated for everyday sewing. The honest exception: for heirloom sewing or historically accurate reproduction, cotton thread is the purist's choice — but for the quilting cottons and garment projects most people buy here, this polyester thread is exactly right.
