So beautiful and as pictured.

much crisper and noisier than I was expecting a lining fabric to be. this would not be appropriate to line dresses or other garments where the lining would be against skin and it's too structured for projects with soft drape. it's also somewhat sheer.

What is 'shaggy brocade' — is it real fur?

It's not real fur — it's a 100% polyester novelty fabric: shag fur mixed with metallic uragiri lamé on a semi-transparent woven background, with tacked 'eyelash' fibers about 3 inches tall piled for a glamorous look. The white version is white shag with white metallic — a snow-queen effect. It's 56/57 inches wide, about 4 oz, machine washable. The listing positions it for faux-fur users who want something sassier. Honest tradeoff: 3-inch pile sheds and catches on everything — this is a statement fabric for costumes, cosplay, and show pieces, not everyday wear.

Is the background really see-through?

Semi-transparent — the listing describes a sheer woven base with the shag and metallic piled on top. In practice, the 3-inch pile covers the base so densely that sheerness is rarely an issue in the finished piece — but at seams and partings, the base can show. Most makers line it or wear it over a base layer for costumes. It's machine washable, but we'd wash it in a mesh bag: 3-inch pile plus a washing machine is a recipe for matting. Honest note: for decor and photo backdrops, the semi-transparent base is irrelevant; for garments, plan a lining.
