Vintage Damask is an old country style Damask pattern on a rustic Cotton Looking Damask Fabric. Both Colors are tone on tone giving it a vintage look. Great for upholstery, drapery, pillow and chair covers. A true home decor item because of its medium to heavy body weight and durability. The damask pattern makes great for costume clothing and theatrical usage. Fabric is 100% Polyester (Cotton look)

It says dry clean only — is that strict, or can I machine wash it?

Treat it as strict. Vintage Damask is listed dry clean only — do not machine wash — and with a 250 grams-per-square-meter (about 12 oz per linear yard) medium-to-heavy damask weave, machine agitation risks distorting the woven pattern and the finish. We'd be straight with you: if you need washable damask for rental tablecloths, this isn't it. Buy Vintage Damask for drapery, upholstery, and decor that doesn't get laundered often, and budget the dry cleaning.

'Cotton look' — so is this cotton or polyester?

It's 100% polyester with a cotton look. The damask is woven to mimic rustic cotton's texture and matte hand, but the fiber is polyester — which means no shrinkage, no fading, and better stain resistance than real cotton. The honest tradeoff: you don't get cotton's breathability or natural feel, so for upholstery that gets sat on daily, some people prefer the real thing. For drapery and event decor, the polyester version is more practical and consistent bolt to bolt.

Is this heavy enough for reupholstering dining chairs?

Yes. At about 12 oz per linear yard with a textured medium-to-heavy body, Vintage Damask has genuine upholstery substance — it will wrap a chair seat or ottoman without stretching out. It's 58" wide per the title. The caveat to price in: it's dry clean only, so think about how the piece gets cleaned before you commit — dining chairs take spills, and spot-cleaning a dry-clean-only damask is its own adventure.
