The listing says 'semi solid' — is this see-through?

Somewhat. This White and Black Rayon Challis is listed as semi-solid, which means a single layer lets some light through — at 120 GSM it's a super-soft lightweight challis, not an opaque suiting. For summer dresses, that breathability is the point, but white areas over dark undergarments will show. We recommend lining the bodice or choosing nude undergarments. If opacity is a dealbreaker, this isn't your fabric.

How should I wash the black and white without ruining it?

Gentle cycle, cold water, machine dry on low or fluff air — and wash it alone the first time. This is a 100% rayon black-and-white challis, and while rayon is washable, high-contrast prints deserve caution on the first wash in case of any dye release. Cold water is non-negotiable: hot water shrinks rayon and can dull the black. After the first solo wash, it's fine with similar colors.
