Description

Our Braided 1/8” Elastic is the ideal product for Face Masks. Braided, not Knitted, will have more elasticity and strength. Our Elastic is ideal for Expanding Opening in Garments - it stretches and returns back to shape. Our Elastic Stretches out 6" from starting Point. Braided Elastic works well with Parallel Ribs running the Length of the Elastic. It Narrows and Curls when its stretched out and returns to original form when released.

Yes — 1/8 inch is actually the classic ear-loop width: narrow enough to sit comfortably behind the ear, with the braided construction giving it more elasticity and strength than knitted elastic of the same width. It stretches about 6 inches from its starting point and snaps back to shape. One honest flag: the description text mentions 1/4-inch width in one spot — that looks like a copy-paste from the 1/4-inch listing, so go by the title: this is the 1/8-inch spool with 200 meters (about 220 yards). And like its wider sibling, it has a latex core, so it is not for latex allergies, and never iron it or apply direct heat.

When would I choose 1/8-inch over 1/4-inch braided elastic?

Choose 1/8 inch for light-duty jobs: mask ear loops, doll clothes, narrow casings, and lightweight gathers. Choose the 1/4-inch for waistbands, cuffs, and anything bearing real weight. The narrower the elastic, the less recovery force it has — 1/8-inch braided is strong for its size, but it cannot do a waistband's job. Both widths come on 200-meter (220-yard) spools in white and black, both are machine washable, and both carry the same warnings: latex core inside, no iron, no direct heat.
